About

Julija Romecka, painting as Julija Ro, returns to the oldest stories: a god who arrives in disguise, a winged horse before it is tamed, an apple inscribed for the fairest. Her figures are built from layered pastel strokes on black and held by a single bright outline, somewhere between an icon and a sketch.

She moved her practice from Vilnius to Bali, where she paints today. Nine years as a product designer run alongside the studio and shape how she thinks about colour, structure and story.
